Practical Karate in San Diego boasts a team of highly accomplished martial arts instructors, each bringing their students a wealth of experience and expertise. Frank McCarroll, the owner and head instructor, holds a master’s degree in education and multiple black belts: a 5th-degree in Isshin-ryu Karate under Arcenio Advincula, a 2nd-degree in JKA Shotokan Karate from Hidetaka Nishiyama, a 2nd-degree in Shorinji Kempo under Terou Onogi, and a 1st-degree in Kodokan Judo under Seichi Nakajima. He also possesses a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from Alfredo Barum. McCarroll integrates his teaching expertise into his martial arts instruction.
Royce Allas, Karate and Wrestling instructor at Practical Karate, holds a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Shito-Ryu Karate. He is a two-time National Karate Federation (NKF) Junior U.S. Champion in Kumite and was a varsity high school wrestler.In 2018, Allas won the USKO Muay Thai Tournament in Riverside, California.
Ferdie Allas, Advanced Karate, Traditional Karate and Competition Team Head Coach at Practical Karate, holds a 5th Degree Black Belt in Shito-Ryu Karate and is a nine-time U.S. National Champion in NKF Karate. His expertise extends to Wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, where he has earned a Black Belt under Johnny Faria. Allas imparts his extensive knowledge in sparring and kata, guiding students of all ages in mastering martial arts techniques and principles. He is the only person to win simultaneous US titles in both Kata and Kumite. His multifaceted accomplishments and dedication to teaching have made him a respected figure in the martial arts community.
Gabriel Miglioli is a former professional fighter, coach of professional fighters, and MMA instructor at Practical Karate. Throughout his career, he faced notable opponents such as Rafael dos Anjos, Joe Stevenson, and Al Iaquinta. Transitioning to coaching, Miglioli has become a respected MMA instructor, serving as the striking coach for former UFC flyweight contender Wilson Reis, former PFL Champion Emiliano Sordi and many others. He holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education and currently coaches at Atos Jiu-Jitsu HQ and Practical Karate in San Diego, California.
